The RHS Level 3 Certificate in Horticulture is the next step in horticultural
qualification following on from the RHS Level 2 Certificate.
The Level 3 Certificate tests a greater depth of knowledge than the Level 2 Certificate
and is designed to form the first stage of the modular RHS
Diploma in Horticulture. Examined in modules, the Level 3 certificate comprises
both written papers and a practical examination

WHO
IS ELIGIBLE?
There
is no minimum academic requirement for the RHS Level 3 Certificate examination,
and success in the RHS Level 2 is not a pre-requisite. However, the course is
aimed at those who have attended an RHS Level 2 course or a course of similar
standard. Those who have no previous experience of horticulture are recommended
to take the RHS Level 2 Certificate prior to studying for the Level 3.
THE EXAMINATIONS
To
achieve the Level 3 Certificate you need to pass four modules: three theory modules
and one practical module. The module for the practical course is run as a separate
course, while the theory modules are combined together as another course.
WHERE
ARE THE EXAMINATIONS HELD?
Examinations
for written modules are held throughout the country, while the practical exam
is held in Dublin.
The
examinations for the theory modules are held in July and the practical examination
is in September.

COURSE
DURATION
The
Level 3 Certificate involves completing two courses, the theory and the practical:
- Theory courses are 180 hours duration and are held two nights each week or one
day a week.
- The practical course is 120 hours duration and is held one day
a week at weekends throughout the year. Five visits to the National Botanic Gardens
are also included (additional approx. 30 hours).
ENROLMENT
FORM FOR COURSE
The
fee covers tuition, National Botanic Garden visits, and comprehensive course notes.
No books are required, but a recommended reading list is included with the notes.
BOOKING
PLACES ON COURSE
A
deposit of €300 is required to be returned with the completed enrolment
form (see above).
The balance of course fees is payable prior to the starting date. Dublin School
of Horticulture will acknowledge the receipt of your payments. These courses may
be paid for by post using our printable Credit
Card Payment Form, or by postal order.
